Logging Multiple Exposure Types

Updated:

Exposure Tracker is designed to let users log multiple exposure types from an incident or event in a single record. We made this change for two major reasons: it reflects the realities firefighters can face, and it saves time by requiring you to enter incident/event information only once. The result is a layered record that reflects what happened on the call.

Understanding Exposure Types

Exposure Tracker features new exposure types:
• Smoke / Products of Combustion
• Biological / Infectious Disease / EMS
• Hazardous Materials
• Bullying, Incivility, or Violence (physical/verbal)
• Significant / Potential Traumatic Event.

Logging Multiple Exposures

Because each exposure type has its own follow-up questions, you’ll have sections for each of the exposure types you’ve selected under each exposure record. Let’s look at an example of a structure fire: A working structure fire can involve multiple exposures: smoke and combustion byproducts on the skin, hazardous materials from contents and construction, biological exposures from victim contact, prolonged sun exposure during overhaul, and a potentially traumatic event — all on the same call. While this may not be a routine example, it’s realistic. We’ve made it easy to capture those details in one go.

How to Log a Multi-Exposure Event

Here’s how to capture multiple exposures within a single event/incident:

Step 1: Create an Exposure

Enter the incident location, date, and basic details.

Step 2: Add Applicable Exposure Type(s)

Select each exposure type that fits what you encountered.

Step 3: Complete Follow-Up Questions

A short series of questions tailored to each exposure type will appear in Exposure Details. Using our structure fire example, the smoke/products of combustion section will include a set of decon questions. Other exposure types have their own targeted prompts.

Step 4: Mark the Exposure Complete

That’s it. The full layered record becomes part of your exposure history, and it travels with you regardless of department changes.
